Military Discounts in Ohio PDF Print

There are approximately 60,000 military personnel in the state of Ohio. Of those, almost 6,500 are Ohio National Guard and reservists on active duty.

To support the troops and their families, many businesses offer discounts. There are many more discounts available than are listed here, and it is always a good idea to ask. Often discounts are available to the military but are not advertised.

Ohio Discounts

  • Amusement parks offer discounted admission tickets to military personnel. A valid military ID is required. Parks that offer military discounts include:
    Cedar Point (419-627-2350)
    Geauga Lake--available through the Northern Ohio USO (1-800-503-8766).
    King’s Island (513-754-5700).
  • Football Hall of Fame (Canton) – Admission is free for military personnel with valid ID. Call 330-456-8207 or visit www.profootballhof.com.
  • Cleveland Museum of Natural History – Military personal and one guest can enter free with a military ID. Call 1-800-317-9155 or visit www.cmnh.org/site/.
  • Patriot Program – The Attorney General’s Office provides free legal service for Ohio military personnel. Call 1-866-GI-HELPR (1-866-444-3577), 614-387-0988 or visit http://www.ag.state.oh.us/citizen/military_veterans/ag_resources.asp.
  • Ohio Historical Society Museum – Military personnel and families get a discount. Call 614-297-2300 or visit ohsweb.ohiohistory.org/places/c09/index.shtml.

Military Discounts Around the Country

Many discounts are available to military personnel and their families all over the country. Listed below are some of the discounts available. Most require a military ID.

  • Theme Parks

    • Anheuser-Busch “Here’s to the Heroes” Program – Any active duty, activated or drilling reservist, or National Guardsman, along with three “direct dependents,” is admitted free to any SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, or Sesame Place parks.
    • Disney World and Disneyland – Disneyland offers military discounts on rooms only. Disney World offers discounts on rooms and tickets to military personnel and up to five family members. Discounts on Disney Cruises are also available.

    • Universal Studios (Hollywood) -- Discount tickets can be obtained through the military MWR ITT/ITR offices or by calling Universal Studios at 818-622-8583.
  • Transportation
    • Airlines – Several airlines offer discounts to military personnel. Try American Airlines (1-800-433-7300), Delta Air Lines (1-800-221-1212), Southwest Airlines (1-800-435-9792), United Airlines (1-800-241-6522), and US Airways (1-800-428-4322). American Airlines invites eligible military personnel to enjoy the hospitality of their Admirals Club facilities and Delta Airlines offers its Crown Club Lounge to military personnel during the holidays.
    • Amtrak – Active-duty military personnel and their families receive a 10% discount on most Amtrak rail fares around the country with a valid active-duty ID.
    • Greyhound – Active-duty or retired military personnel and their dependents are eligible for 10% discounts on Greyhound’s unrestricted fares.
  • Hotels – Many hotel chains offer discounts to military personnel, including: Holiday Inn, Best Western, Hilton, Radisson, Crown Plaza, Marriott, and Choice Hotels. Some hotels require online reservations in order to receive the discount.
  • Cell Phone Service – Most cell phone companies offer discounts to military personnel. For more information, you can call Alltel (1-800-ALLTEL1), Cingular (1-866-246-4852), Sprint (1-800-639-6111 or 1-888-703-9514), Verizon (1-800-922-0204), and T-Mobile (1-866-646-4688).
  • Autos and Auto Insurance – Toyota, General Motors, Suzuki, Chrysler, and Jeep offer discounts on new cars to military personnel. GEICO offers a 2% to 15% discount on car insurance to active and retired members of the military.
  • Computers – Dell, HP, and Apple offer military discounts on computers.
  • Restaurants – Many restaurants, including Applebee’s, Arby’s, A&W, Denny’s Golden Corral, and IHOP offer discounts to military personnel.
