According to the Miami University Scripps Gerontology Center :
- Over 17% of Ohio 's population is age 60 or over.
- Over 33% of Ohioans age 60+ have at least one disability.
- Over 41% of women and 20% of men 60 or older in Ohio live alone.
- Over 12% of Ohioans aged 60+ live in poverty.
There are many resources available to you in Ohio . If you need help and advice with home maintenance and repairs, Meals-On-Wheels, legal advice, prescription drug information, Veterans benefits, or dealing with your finances, support may just be a phone call away.
Area Offices On Aging
This program provides access to community services that enable Ohioans age 60 and older to live as independently as possible. Ohio has 12 “Area Offices on Aging” each serving a multi-county area. Energy Assistance Programs

AARP

Legal Assistance For Seniors

Tax Counseling For The Elderly
Tax-Aide is a program sponsored by AARP, which provides free income tax preparation services to middle and low-income taxpayers aged 60 and over. For more information call 888-227-7669 or visit the AARP website at www.aarp.org
The Golden Buckeye Program
The Golden Buckeye program provides savings to older Ohioans at nearly 20,000 participating businesses all over the state. If you are age 60 or older, or are age 18-59 and have a Medicare-certified disability, you are eligible for a free Golden Buckeye Card. Cardholders enjoy savings on “dining, entertainment, groceries, hardware, services and more.” Cardholders are also eligible for the free Golden Buckeye Prescription Drug Savings Program. Senior Farmer's Market Nutrition Program
The Senior Farmer's Market Nutrition Program is offered by the Ohio Department of Aging in partnership with Area Agencies on Aging in 25 Ohio counties. Low income seniors who are at least 60 years old may receive coupons June through October which can be redeemed for “free, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs from certified farmers' markets, roadside stands and community supported agriculture programs.” Call the Ohio Department of Aging at 1-800-266-4346 or visit their website at www.goldenbuckeye.com.
Banking
Many banks and lending institutions offer savings on a variety of banking services to older adults (usually 55 years of age or older). Check with yours to see what discounts or other savings they may have available for senior citizens.
