Ohio Saves is a statewide movement initiated by Ohio Treasurer Richard Cordray, The Ohio State University Extension and Ohio United Way to promote saving in Ohio . This social marketing campaign has a proven track record of motivating individuals to make a commitment to save for specific goals and has persuaded financial institutions to offer no-fee and low-fee savings accounts that allow small savers to succeed.

Many employers are supporting the message and offering workshops to have employees participate in 401K and 457 compensation programs, increase amounts committed to those programs, and establish emergency savings accounts.

Non-profit organizations use the America Saves program as an added value component for homeownership and self-sufficiency programs.

Indeed, organizations of all kinds, ranging from unions to churches to government agencies, have embraced this movement for the benefit of their members, congregants, and constituents in an effort to combat the “spend it all and more” mentality that now has the United States at our lowest savings rate since the Great Depression.
